           Lithium ion batteries play a crucial role in the blueprint for sustainable and rapid development in China. On the one hand, with the proposal of the carbon neutrality route, there is a higher and more urgent demand for large-scale energy storage batteries supporting new energy; On the other hand, on the power consumption side, the number of electric vehicles and electric bicycles in China has reached 5 million and 300 million, respectively, and continues to grow rapidly. There is an urgent need for safe and high-energy advanced power batteries. However, the frequent occurrence of accidents such as fires and explosions in large-scale energy storage lithium battery packs both domestically and internationally has hindered the rapid promotion of lithium battery energy storage power stations. At the same time, lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles/bicycles often cause fire accidents, which has attracted strong attention from consumers. In addition to the safety issues mentioned above, the cycle life of battery packs used in energy storage stations needs to be strengthened to meet the requirements of longer service cycles; Electric vehicle power batteries urgently need higher specific energy to alleviate consumers' mileage anxiety. In addition to the field of national economy, there is also a clear and urgent demand for advanced lithium batteries in the field of special power sources for national defense: underwater weapons and future soldier systems urgently need ultra-high specific energy lithium batteries; When performing tasks at high altitudes and poles, lithium batteries that can be powered normally at extremely low temperatures are required; Killer equipment such as directed energy weapons require lithium batteries with ultra-high discharge power characteristics.


           As one of the four key main materials of batteries, electrolyte has contact with all battery materials and bears the responsibility of transferring lithium ions between positive and negative electrodes. It has a significant impact on the key performance of lithium batteries mentioned above, including high and low temperature, safety, rate performance, and energy density. Therefore, with the deepening of research on lithium-ion battery technology, the importance of electrolytes is increasingly being valued by people. In recent years, there have been many developments in the field of lithium battery electrolytes, including special electrolytes suitable for high voltage lithium rich/ternary/LCO positive electrodes, low temperature (-70 degrees Celsius), stable metal lithium negative electrodes, silicon/carbon/phosphorus/alloys and other high capacity negative electrodes, as well as high safety electrolytes with flame retardancy, fast charging specialized electrolytes, and air battery specialized electrolytes. The latest developments mentioned above have shown researchers and the industry good research and application prospects for the new generation of advanced lithium batteries. Electrolyte technology is expected to help advanced lithium batteries meet the significant needs of national economic construction and special applications in the field of national defense. In recent years, significant progress has been made in basic scientific research on electrolytes, and a group of young and top-notch talents have emerged. They are diligent, pragmatic, and innovative in scientific research, continuously promoting the technological progress of lithium-ion batteries in China.


          On August 4-6, 2023, the "Second National Lithium ion Battery Electrolyte Academic Seminar" was successfully held in Changzhou. This seminar focuses on advanced lithium-ion battery electrolyte technologies such as new mechanism scientific innovation, high energy, high power, high low temperature, high safety, and high voltage, as well as new solvents, new lithium salts, new additives, and new electrolyte systems. Conduct in-depth exchanges on the latest progress in the field and its prospects in device trial production and military civilian applications, showcasing new achievements in advanced lithium-ion battery electrolyte research and technology.
